What will an accountant charge to do my accounts ? Recently the profession itself carried out a survey and decided that the fees being charged were too low !! There are some guidelines that are used by most 'one man band' services and they range from £30 to £50 per hour. However it will depend on what they will do for you and this is where y29-Dec-2011 is necessary. The fact that they use an hourly rate means that the actual charge will be indeterminate until the job is finished and you would need to judge whether the time spent was reasonable. Larger firms will charge upwards of £100 per hour (Top of page)
The Benefits of Doing it Yourself
What advantages are there to doing my own accounts ? The most important one is that you can put your money to better use in your own business. There is a free report on this subject and this deals with the subject quite well
I do not understand the language that is used by accountants. Help !! The profession want to make it a closed shop and so have established terminology of their own. One aim in doing it yourself is to learn in plain english what is involved so that you are able to undertand what is done and how it is done. That way you can hire the right people when it becomes necessary (Top of page)
Using a Personal Computer for Business
I have a PC and would like to use it more. Where should I start ? You should decide first that you can do things more quickly and accurately by using a PC. Foir instance, if you write a lot of repetitive letters then the PC will save you time since you would produce a template and only make the changes necessary to make each letter specific for its purpose. For accounting, if hand written records and calculations are taking too much of your time, you can progress from using spreadsheets to using a commercial application on your PC. The cost involved will depend on how far you need to go with the records. Doing Your Own Accounts provides an Excel Workbook free of charge to get you started using the PC and getting the benefits of using it. If you need more assistance in getting started with your PC then contact us (Top of page)
Using the Doing Your Own Accounts Workbook
I have been using the Workbook for some time and find it very useful. I would like to get a Balance Sheet and have the Bank reconciliation made easier, is there a way ?
We have several add on modules that provide additional automation to the Workbook. You will find a list of those available here. The price is reasonable and you will recover that with the time saved on your very first use of the modules
